In-House Dining At Bungalow:Ate
We're very proud of our lagoon-front restaurant, Bungalow:Ate. Apart from superb contemporary cuisine that draws on local produce (organic Vanuatu beef is simply the best), the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service make every dining experience special.
We open daily from 7:30am to late (you can actually order breakfast all day but we figure most people are thinking 'brunch' as midday gets closer) and have Happy Hour each evening from 5.00pm to 7:00pm. Room service is available from 7:30am to 9:00pm and a candlelit dinner on your private balcony can be arranged at no additional cost.
Sunset usually has live music one night each week from one of Vanuatu’s popular local bands who play both popular and local music. On special occasions, or once a month we have our island feast nights – they really are like no other in Vanuatu – traditional dancers, string bands, local dishes and the customary drink, kava. Definitely worth staying in for!
Here's a sample of the type of dishes chef likes to present to tantalise the taste buds… We think it is very inexpensive compared to a similar standard restaurant at home and there's no tipping in Melanesian culture.
Starters (all 1100-1380 vatu - AUD$12-16)
- Thai style prawn and fish cakes with sweet and sour dipping sauce
- Risotto of pumpkin with Rocket and Parmesan
- Pan fried scallops with orange and fennel salad, hazelnut vinaigrette
Light Lunch (between 1000 and 1300 vatu - AUD$12 - $15)
- Beef Burger or Chicken burger served with chips
- Tusker Beer battered fish and chips
- Bacon, lettuce and tomato (BLT) served in a fresh Batard
Main Meals (all 2300 vatu - AUD$26.50)
- Reef Fish in coconut batter served with a green pawpaw salad and chips
- Creamy mustard chicken served with garlic mash and green beans
- Crispy skinned poulet fish fillet, orange and fennel salad, dill and caper salsa
- Red curry of poulet fish, shredded green pawpaw salad, steamed jasmine rice and chilli jam
- Aged sirloin steak (280g) with café de Paris butter, petite salad and chips
Sweet Things (all 1000 vatu - AUD$11.50)
- Lime and ginger crème brullé with coconut ice cream
- Caramelized Banana Rum Flambe with chocolate ice cream
- Chocolate Mousse served with chunky chocolate pieces and topped with crème fraiche
