What We Haven't Got
Most of the Vanuatu accommodation properties come with a bit of compromise - for example, a property with a beach may not have air-conditioning or a swimming pool. And Sunset Bungalows is no exception. Here are some of the things we don't have:
A Beach
While we do have a nice sandy area by the lagoon where guests can lie on a lounge and read a book, brush up on that tan, laze in a hammock or have a massage, it's not a beach as such. So we've solved this shortcoming for guests by providing a couple of fluffy towels, snorkel gear, an esky with a picnic & chilled drinks and a bus with a driver. Presto - we now have a choice of beaches!
The nice beaches around Vila include Turtle Bay, Eton and Tamanu. Your driver drops you there will return at a designated time to pick you up or you may like him to stay around and enjoy his company.
Great Snorkelling
To be honest, our lagoon gives great ambience, is nice to look at and kayak on but the snorkelling is lousy. All you will see are large starfish and the occasional real fish - and you might as well look at them from your balcony.
But we do have snorkelling gear to take from the resort and, again, can organise a bus and driver to take you to the best spots and pick you up later in the day. Hideaway Marine Sanctuary is one of the best spots with lots to see not far from the shore and there's a restaurant and the world's only underwater post office (send a waterproof postcard home!).
You can also resort-hop - for example, Paradise Cove is a great spot for lunch and a swim with fantastic snorkelling out front and Breaka's Beach resort also welcomes non-staying guests who can swim/snorkel as long as they have a snack or a drink.
Jet Skis, Golf Clubs & Saddles
We could have jet skis but we prefer to limit the noise pollution to the sound of lapping water, birds and perhaps a little background music in the restaurant. If you feel like having a hoon around the harbour, we can arrange for you to be dropped at Iririki wharf.
If whacking a little white ball around takes your fancy we can arrange for hackers to have a hit on the resort courses at Le Meridien or Le Lagon and for the more serious there's the 18-hole championship course at Mele Golf & Country Club (to play in the local Saturday comp bring proof of handicap).
And if horse riding beckons, Club Hippique Aquatic Park is just down the end of our lagoon, just five minutes away.
Kids In The Pool!
Nothing against the delightful little ankle-biters, but Sunset has a strict childfree policy.
